Elephants in Thailand

We had a great day in Koh Chang (Elephant Island) on the east coast of Thailand. A number of elephants have been relocated to this island from Northern Thailand where they had worked in the logging industry for many years.  This elephant is 32 years old!

We rode through the jungle for about an hour - our elephant kept stopping to nibble on bushes along the way!  Elephants are so great - they are really graceful and calm - it is quite relaxing to ride them once you get used to their rolling gait.

After the walk all the elephants climbed into the river to cool off.

After a few minutes of them spraying each other and their trainers (mahouts) we got to join them. Here is Cole joining in on the fun!

We all got to sit on the elephants while they sprayed themselves (and us), rolled around and dunked under the water - it was like riding a really slow roller coaster.

After the swim we returned to the camp.

Kenna took some time to feed an elephant some bananas before we headed back to the beach.
